Ski season in Austria runs from the 14th of November and operates until the 17th of April, which means it’s time to start planning you’re next ski break. Whether you’re just starting out or consider yourself a professional, Austria is bursting with wonderful ski slopes and schools. We’ve compiled the top five to get you started.

1. Soll

This is one of the liveliest ski villages and is certainly popular with beginners, but it’s probably more suited to those of an intermediate level. This is a traditional Austrian family-friendly ski village and it’s the main gateway to its 279 km of mostly easy and intermediate pistes. It’s ideal families because it offers much more than just slopes, meaning you can make a splash at the aqua leisure centre or try your hand at ice-skating.

2. St Anton

This is one of the world’s most famous ski resorts and is located in the Arlberg region. It’s not for the fainthearted with some of the most challenging slopes in the Alps. This beautiful resort is situated in a narrow valley, amongst a car-free village packed with traditional Austrian character and lots to do during the day and night.

3. Kühtai

Close to Innsbruck, Kühtai has a rather exclusive reputation and is one of the best places for exploring the beautiful forests. It’s also home to the TV ski show ‘The Jump’ and is one of the highest ski resorts in all of Austria. It’s generally a lot quieter on the slopes so it’s perfect if you want a relaxed, friendly and intimate feel – particularly if you’re just starting out!

4. Alpbach

This Tyrolean beauty is set amongst picturesque scenery and linked to the stunning Wildschönau Valley which is perfect for intermediates. The historic village is often voted ‘Austria’s Most Beautiful’ and it’s no surprise why. This is a perfect spot for picture-perfect moments and ski slopes to suit all abilities.

Before you hit the slopes, don’t forget about your European Health Insurance Card – it will come in very useful if you injure yourself whilst skiing (which is always a real possibility!). You can complete your ehic renewal online today with a super quick and easy process.
