The best festivals in Europe for summer 2016

Summertime has become synonymous with festivals. Thousands of us, of all ages, relish the chance to enjoy live music, camp out in the fresh air for a few days, and experience a great respite from everyday life. Now, whatever your musical tastes, there are loads of new festivals taking place all over Europe. This means a fun-filled summer holiday can be combined with a trip to one. Let’s take a look at some of the best on offer.

Primavera Sound in Spain

Lovers of electronic should head for this five day event in Barcelona, with headliners Radiohead and PJ Harvey. It takes place in the first week of June and has grown into a huge event, with an expected 190,000 attendees.

Love International in Croatia

From the people who brought us “Love Saves the Day” in Bristol, this festival is situated in a natural amphitheatre besides the ocean in Tisno. Expect to party all day and all night to the house and disco vibe in this gorgeous setting, from 29th June to 6th July.

Edge of the Lake in Switzerland

This festival may not boast big names, but it is very affordable and in a fantastic location beside the Lac de Geronde, surrounded by mountains. Ideal for a very chilled out few days at the beginning of July.

A Summer’s Tale in Germany

Perfect for families with lots of performing arts workshops and acts including Sigur Rós and Billy Bragg. This festival is not far from Hamburg and takes place in August.

Exit in Serbia

A festival with a social mission, Exit raises funds for Balkan youngsters. It is held by a castle and this year welcomes Ellie Goulding, Bastille, and many other big names to its line up.

Don’t forget your European health card

Festivals are fun, but make sure to take your EHIC card whenever you travel to Europe, just in case all that partying takes its toll! Stay hydrated and always pack sunscreen. If your EHIC card has expired, it’s easy to order a new one from us. Enjoy the summer of 2016, wherever you go.
