Noel Gallagher’s European Tour 2016
For some people, waiting for your favourite band or artist to tour a venue near them just isn’t enough or is too long to wait. Then there are some super fans who follow their favourite act to every show of their world tour, although for many of us that simply isn’t financially viable. However if you’re visiting parts of Europe on your summer holiday this year then you could always take in a show at the same time. Since leaving Oasis in 2009, Noel Gallagher is currently on his second solo world tour with his backing band High Flying Birds. He is currently on the European leg approaching the end of this tour, see if you’re passing through any of these cities at the same time as Mr Gallagher himself.
Salata, Zagreb, Croatia
Located in an upper-class residential neighbourhood within Zagreb, the Salata has previously hosted Morrissey, Franz Ferdinand and Faithless among many others. The Chief’s first solo tour in 2011-12 was a smaller affair and never reached as far as Croatia in that instance. So the Croatian fans are bound to make the most of this opportunity to see the former Oasis man in action.
Pukkelpop, Hasselt, Belgium
Throughout its 30 years Pukkelpop has been the top festival in Belgium and has headlined some of the biggest bands in the world including Guns N’ Roses, Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Founded in 1985 by a youth organisation and originated as a single day event held on a Belgian national holiday. Since then it has grown in popularity and stature year on year moving from the village of Leopoldsburg to a bigger site in Hasselt where it is now a four-day event. Acts including Catfish and the Bottlemen, Biffy Clyro and Rihanna are also at this year’s festival.
Open Air Grampel, Grampel-Bratsch, Switzerland
The hit Swiss festival is enjoying its 30th anniversary this year and holds an impressive CV with the likes of Status Quo, Deep Purple, Shaggy, Kaiser Chiefs and the Chemical Brothers have all played there among star-studded line-ups. This year Sigma, Sum 41, Robin Schulz and the return of Biffy Clyro are all helping the Open Air Grampel with this year’s celebrations.
Lowlands Festival, Biddinghuizen, Holland
The affectionate abbreviated term for A Campingflight to Lowlands Paradise is an annual music and performing arts festival in the Netherlands and the final stop on Noel’s European tour before a few final dates in the UK. Regularly attended by over 55,000 attendees with more than 200 acts spread out over ten stages, Lowlands is a really big deal in Europe. After performing there once with Oasis in 1994, this will make Gallagher’s first performance there in 22 years. Other big names playing Lowlands this year include Foals, LCD Soundsystem, Disclosure, the Last Shadow Puppets and Muse.
