Finding Your Way In Florence

Proud capital of Italy’s Tuscany region, Florence is the home of many Renaissance masterpieces of art and architecture. Duomo cathedral with its terracotta-tiled dome is one of the most iconic sights in the city. Florence is a fantastic destination for relaxing and learning about the culture.

All of the charms of Florence are on offer all year round but the area can be particularly hot and humid in July and August. The best months to travel can be May or October, as it is not as hot as July/August but still hot enough to comfortably enjoy and are still popular periods for tourism (make sure you book early). Also remember to apply for your European Health Insurance Card which will entitle you to free or reduced healthcare should you fall ill during your stay in the Italian city.

Piazzale Michelangelo

One of the best panoramic views in Florence is available from this classic 19th century piazza, the square is also decorated with many copies of Michelangelo’s sculptures. Many locals consider this a must see spot in the city and will provide the ultimate taste of Florence life with the quaint homes and numerous scooters plus delightful views of Firenze. Enjoy a stroll in the sunshine along the river and take a pit-stop in the café.

 Accademia Gallery

This gallery is famous as Europe’s first school of drawing and as home to many genuine sculptures of Michelangelo including the iconic David. Many visitors will tell you that David is the undisputed highlight but you are guaranteed to find magic and history in every room of the Accademia. With a number of statues throughout that are all restored to preserve them from decaying, plus some unfinished Michelangelo sculptures and a few of his old instruments. Entry is €8 per person and free for under 18’s.
