2016’s top European holiday destinations
When it comes to booking your summer holiday in Europe, it can be tempting to go down the tried and tested route and stay somewhere you’ve been before. But why not shake it up a little and check out one of our top European holiday destinations for 2016? You might find your new favourite holiday!
Croatia has really hit the mainstream in recent years, and while savvy travellers have been enjoying its pristine beaches and low prices for years, it’s easier than ever to get there now, making it the perfect destination for your family holiday.
For something a little bit different, why not take a sailing holiday around some of the beautiful islands and coves along this gorgeous country’s coastline? There are plenty of child-friendly options available, or you could get away with someone special on an adults-only boat trip this summer.
The Greek islands haven’t been getting the best press of late, and nor for that matter has the rest of the country – which is bad for the Greek tourism industry, but great for your pocket if it’s delicious Mediterranean food, pretty towns and picturesque beaches that float your boat.
Check out the quaint island of Santorini, which looks like it’s come straight off a postcard with its white and blue buildings and rugged volcanic landscape. It’s a favourite of honeymooners and couples, but there’s plenty to keep the kids occupied too, while mum and dad enjoy some truly incredible sunsets.
A staycation offers half the stress and half the cost of heading abroad – although you’ve probably got double the chance of rain! Wales has some stunning bits of coastline and some incredible scenery. Plus, driving there yourself means you can enjoy a relaxed pace.
If you are heading to Europe in the summer months, remember to apply for an EHIC in good time. The European Health Insurance Card will entitle you to cheap or free healthcare if any accidents should happen – it’s often a lot cheaper than your insurance excess.
